A moisture vapor barrier is an add-on system that may be required when moisture conditions are discovered during your floor evaluation. Excess moisture moving through a concrete slab can cause coatings to fail, so when testing reveals a moisture concern, a vapor barrier is installed beneath the finished floor system to protect it. Not every project requires a moisture vapor barrier — it is only recommended when the conditions call for it.
